5 AXIS
CNC

We are always aiming to extend our capabilities and the recent investment into two new 5-axis CNC machines brings a host of further solutions. A recent £250,000 investment in the Biesse Materia CL gantry processing centre machine pushes our capabilities even further. These ground-breaking machines have a large trimming capacity of 4000mm x 2000mm and can be configured with four different work tables – open gridded, stratified phenolic resin grid, gridded aluminium, or gridded aluminium with “T” slots obtained from steel plates – making our capabilities unique within the industry. Using this machine, we can perform complex and precise cutting (within 0.2mm precision), milling and drilling operations on various materials, allowing the production of intricate and highly accurate three-dimensional components.

Benefits of a 5-axis CNC machine

  • Enhanced precision: The multiple axes of movement allows for precise cutting from various angles, resulting in complex geometries and smooth contours with minimal errors.
  • Increased efficiency: The ability to access different angles and positions during trimming allows simultaneous machining on multiple sides of the workpiece, reducing production time.
  • Improved surface finish: The multi-axis movement helps to reduce tool marks and achieved superior surface quality, especially when working with curved / contoured surfaces.
  • Expanded capabilities: 5-axis CNC machines mean that we can create intricate designs with complex shapes that would otherwise be impossible to produce with conventional machining methods.
  • Versatility: We can work with a wide variety of materials on our machines including metals, plastics, composites and wood, making it suitable for various industries such as aerospace, automotive, medical, and prototyping.

In-house CNC jig production

As a company, we make our own CNC jigs for several reasons, and there are numerous benefits to doing so:

  • Customisation capabilities and complete control over design
  • Cost savings as no outsourcing is required
  • Flexibility and iteration of designs quickly
  • Intellectual property protection as we can ensure designs are secure
  • Quality control is ensured
  • Skill developments involved in producing our own CNC jigs means we are experts in the industry

Investment in CNC machinery makes us unique within the industry

Continuous investment in machinery and tooling is a game changer here at PMN, enhancing our capabilities and capacity for the most bespoke projects.

Our innovative kit uses computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) to create 3D objects from plastic material, this can be used for a variety of purposes, including prototyping, product development and manufacturing.
